Privacy notice for readers
The plain facts
Hometown Mag is the one in charge of any personal information this site collects, and it collects very little. The sections below cover what comes in, why we keep it and when it goes. Questions about any of this can go to hello@hometownmag.com.
The box at the bottom of each page
Scroll to the foot of any page and you will find our contact form. It has two fields, an email address and a message. It asks nothing else.
We use the email address to write back and the message to see what you need, say a garage door that sticks every January or a porch rail gone soft. Messages from the contact form are kept for 12 months. Then they are deleted.
You can also skip the form and write to the address shown on our Reach us page. Emails sent that way follow the same 12 month rule.
Server logs
The servers that host Hometown Mag note a few technical facts about each visit on their own. Those include the IP address, the browser type, the page and the time of day. The notes help keep pages loading and help us shut the door on break in attempts. They are not used to track a reader's habits.
About cookies
This site does not drop tracking or advertising cookies in your browser. That is why no cookie pop up appears.
Never sold
Hometown Mag does not sell personal information. What readers send is not shared with advertisers or with anyone running ads. A note about your gutters is read here and answered from here.
If your state gives you privacy rights
California passed a privacy law that lets residents question businesses about their data, and a number of other states have since followed with privacy laws of their own. If one of them covers you, these are the requests you can make. We answer them for every reader, whatever the state.
Ask to see the messages and address we have from you. Ask us to correct anything that is out of date. Ask us to delete it all early, before the 12 months run out. Or ask to opt out of any sale or sharing, a step we record even though we do neither.
Write to hello@hometownmag.com or use the contact form at the bottom of this page, and say which request you are making. We may check with you that the request is genuine. Nothing about how we treat you changes because you asked.
Young readers
The articles here are written for homeowners, which means adults. Hometown Mag is not built for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information. That keeps the site within COPPA, the federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.
If a child has written to us, a parent can email and ask. We will delete the message.
